Snake for underbody cooling
Fighting EV fires
Underbody cooling is the simplest and safest method for efficient firefighting in cars with high-voltage lithium-ion batteries . Underbody cooling is also recommended in Tesla's rescue data sheets .
Underbody cooling prevents additional vehicle damage and poses no risk of unnecessary damage to the battery.
The ladder is constantly cooled by SnakE, and temperatures near the ground are generally not as high.
As an alternative, we offer a foldable aluminum frame, which can also be loaded into the EuroBox.

D-hose couplings
Connect modules
The individual nozzle modules are connected with specially designed D-hoses. This ensures an optimal spray pattern at all times and allows SnakE to be easily expanded.

Clamping
Mounting nozzle modules
The nozzle modules can be mounted on a specially designed, foldable aluminum frame or on a stepladder. Their height is so low that they can still fit under most common electric vehicles, even with a flat tire.

C-hose couplings
Water supply
The water supply is via a C-connection, which is then split into two D-connections after a filter. This ensures a sufficient water supply at all times and protects the nozzles from clogging. This allows the nozzles to finely atomize the water at all times, thus increasing cooling performance while reducing water consumption! Each nozzle consumes only around 20 liters per minute.

Simple expansion
Spray boom
SnakE can be easily converted into a firefighting boom with a simple extension from us. The same SnakE set can thus be used to equip any pump-and-roll fire engine with a forest fire spray boom. Ideal support for vegetation fires, oil spill cleanup, or street cleaning.

Firefighting in electric vehicles with lithium-ion batteries
Which extinguishing agent should be used for electric vehicles?
The extinguishing agent recommended by the professional associations AGBF, vfdb and the German Fire Brigade Association is quite clear: water.
As with firefighting in vehicles with combustion engines, it is also effective to use extinguishing foam occasionally.
SnakE is suitable for both normal water and fire extinguishing foam or wetting agents.
What challenges does extinguishing electric vehicles with Li-Ion batteries pose?
The high-voltage battery in alternative-powered vehicles poses an increased risk of electrical accidents. The high-voltage cables are marked orange and must not be severed under any circumstances!
The battery of the electric car is usually installed in the underbody and is therefore difficult to access, so that under normal conditions not much cooling water reaches the battery.
The risk with lithium-ion batteries is thermal runaway, which means that many battery cells ignite each other through chain reactions. The damage is difficult to localize within the battery.
In addition, vehicles with modern designs generally have a higher fire load and burn with greater energy release and smoke development.
How much water should be used to extinguish fires in high-voltage storage systems in vehicles with alternative drives?
According to the latest recommendations of the German statutory accident insurance, the following procedure is recommended in the event of a traffic accident involving a vehicle with alternative drives.
It is recommended to use two different pipes early on, one for classic car fire fighting and one for cooling the lithium-ion battery (LIB).
For efficient cooling, a small amount of water is usually sufficient.
It is recommended to better reach the underbody of the vehicle with the high-voltage storage device in order to increase efficiency and keep extinguishing water consumption as low as possible.

What methods are currently available for fighting fires in vehicles with alternative drives, e.g. lithium-ion batteries?
- Wet quarantine/fire extinguisher container
- fire lance
- Extinguishing mandrel
- Fire blankets
- SnakE underbody cooling
What is the AGBF Bund's recommendation for firefighting in electric motor vehicles?
Following the recommendations of the Technical Committees for Preventive Fire and Hazard Protection and the Technical Committee for Operations, Extinguishing Agents and Environmental Protection of the German Fire Services from the AGBG Bund, the following procedure was officially recommended in January 2021.
The initial fire-fighting measures are the same as for a normal car fire: cooling with water and, if necessary, with extinguishing agents such as fire-fighting foam or wetting agents.
It is important to always consult the most up-to-date rescue data sheets.
In general, modern vehicles emit increased amounts of smoke and heat.
If it is an electric vehicle, the high-voltage storage unit should be examined with a thermal imaging camera.
The efficient extinguishing agent for fire fighting remains water.
If, when checking the high-voltage energy storage unit in the electric vehicle, a temperature significantly higher than the outside temperature is measured, in combination with a steady temperature increase, the housing of the high-voltage energy storage unit must be cooled with water according to current recommendations.
Quarantine is explicitly not the responsibility of the fire department. In its latest expert recommendation, the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) advises using this method only in absolute exceptional cases, as disposing of firefighting water presents fire departments with significant logistical challenges. In particular, preventative wet quarantine should be avoided.
The HV battery in the electric vehicle must be cooled and checked with the thermal imaging camera until the vehicle can be handed over to the operator or a suitable towing company.
The extinguishing success is only achieved through the cooling effect of the water.
