What the skin absorbs
The skin is the second way in
PAHs from fire smoke, vehicle fluids at a road accident, cleaning agents and disinfectants at the station: three different calls, the same skin, often on the same day. Whatever stays on it has time to be absorbed. Skin protection steps in before that.
Without skin protection …
- Nachteil: Vehicle fluids such as gasoline and diesel stay right on the skin
- Nachteil: PAHs from fire smoke reach unprotected skin on the front and back of the neck and on the forearms
- Nachteil: Disinfectants and cleaning agents put additional strain on the skin barrier
- Nachteil: Protection and care products are two separate items in the skin protection plan
… with BarrierBoost Dual
- Vorteil: A protective film is on the skin before contact: universal against water-soluble and water-insoluble substances
- Vorteil: Can be applied to all skin areas, including the face and the front and back of the neck
- Vorteil: Cares for stressed skin, because protection and care come in the same product
- Vorteil: One item instead of two in the skin protection plan
Tested protection
What backs the protection
BarrierBoost Dual comes from DermaPurge, the maker of pak-ex and a spin-off of the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden. The protective effect is confirmed under TRGS 401 and was tested according to test principle GS-PS-14, using toluene as the water-insoluble and sodium dodecyl sulfate as the water-soluble test substance.
-
Protection confirmed per TRGS 401 Technical Rule for Hazardous Substances: risks from skin contact
-
Tested to GS-PS-14 Test basis used to determine the protective effect

What is the difference between skin protection and skin cleansing?
Skin protection comes before contact: BarrierBoost Dual puts a protective film on the skin and works universally against water-soluble and water-insoluble substances. Cleansing comes afterwards: pak-ex removes more than 96% of PAHs from the skin. BarrierBoost does not replace cleansing. It ensures that less reaches the skin, and it cares for the skin afterwards.
Can I wear BarrierBoost under protective gloves?
Yes. BarrierBoost Dual is suitable for wearing under protective gloves and other PPE and is applied before putting them on. It can be used on all skin areas.
Is one product enough for the skin protection plan?
For protection and care, yes: BarrierBoost Dual combines both roles and so replaces the separate protection and care products. For cleansing after a fire call, pak-ex comes in: together, the two products cover the complete routine. A short skin protection plan is also the one the crew remembers: one product fewer means one step fewer, less procurement effort and less storage space at the station.
How often do I need to apply BarrierBoost?
Apply before work, then reapply every two to four hours, as well as after longer breaks and after every hand wash.
Which size is right for a station?
The 500 ml dispenser belongs at the wash point: per 100 ml it comes at a considerably lower price than the tube, and the table in the purchase section shows the exact unit price. The 100 ml tube fits in your turnout coat and in the vehicle. On request, we work out how many packs your crew needs per year.
