What to clarify before procurement

Which hand lamp attaches to the turnout jacket?

Angle-head lamps like the Mactronic Flagger family: with a clip, hook or magnet, the lamp sits on the jacket or belt, the beam points forward, and both hands stay on the job. The Flagger also signals in white, red and green.

How many lumens does my flashlight need?

More lumens doesn't automatically mean better. For close-range work, 200 to 500 lumens are enough, and for searching buildings, 1,000 to 3,000. For searching at a distance, range counts as well as luminous flux: the Black Eye X31, for example, reaches 530 meters. What matters more than the peak value is the runtime in the mode you actually use.

What do IP ratings like IPX4 or IP68 mean?

The first digit stands for dust protection, the second for water protection; an X means: not tested. IPX4 withstands splashing water, enough for rain. IP67 and IP68 stand for dust-tight housings that tolerate temporary and continuous immersion respectively. For interior attack and flood incidents: the higher, the more rugged.
