Industrial firefighting

What's next to the fire?

In industry, chemicals and logistics, the answer decides how much distance your crews can keep. If a container stands in the heat, you cool in place and pull the team back. If the fire sits inside the building, the water goes in on the sectional ladder and the team stays in front of the opening. If volume from a distance is needed, the monitor stands alone.

Incident 1: hazmat with heat exposure

Cool the IBC without putting your team next to it

The SnakE® Cooling Set covers gas cylinder, IBC and object cooling with the same modules. The full-area wetting of the top of the tank lowers the shell surface temperature and reduces the risk of container failure.

  1. The incident

    Container in the heat

IBC storage in industry, freight companies, chemical and pharma logistics. A fire next door, and the container holds solvents, acids or flammable oils. The same applies to heat-exposed gas cylinders, especially acetylene.

  2. The sticking point

The C line keeps the team in the hazard zone

Cooling the surface by holding a nozzle on it puts you exactly where nobody wants to stand, and keeps you in the hazard zone of a possible BLEVE for hours.

  3. The answer

Cool in place, operate from cover

The modules sit on the container and discharge water over its surface. 4 modules × approx. 20 l/min = approx. 80 l/min at 2 to 4 bar. The supply line comes from cover, the team pulls back and checks regularly.

Set up in three steps

  1. Position Clamp four adapters to the upper frame tube of the IBC cage, one module row per adapter. On a gas cylinder, use two to four modules in a semicircle instead, on a base stand or a sectional ladder section.
  2. Connect the water C supply line to the wye, from there 2 × Storz D to the module strings. Requires a C supply line with Storz C (52 mm).
  3. Pull back into cover The wetting keeps running. Operation that spares your personnel, with regular checks of water discharge, the incident and the surroundings.

In the set

  • 1 × Euro box 60 × 40 × 18 cm with hinged lid
  • 6 × SnakE® nozzle module V4A with full cone nozzle, each approx. 10 × 10 × 10 cm and approx. 500 g
  • 4 × SnakE® IBC adapter
  • 1 × wye Storz C to 2 × Storz D
  • 6 × Storz D connecting hose
  • 2 × base stand in anodized aluminum
  • 2 × Storz D blind coupling

Combines with any existing SnakE® system via Storz D (25 mm), including the SnakE® rotary sprinkler. The rotary sprinkler is not included in the set.

What counts for the decision

  • Personnel outside the hazard zone of a possible BLEVE
  • Glass-bead-blasted V4A in the entire water path
  • Instruction on site or digitally within one drill night
  • Maintenance: visual check and flushing after use

Incident 3: volume from a distance

Portable monitors for high flow rates

A monitor stands on its own and discharges continuously. The crew member who would otherwise hold the nozzle is free again for other tasks.

  • Rescuevation® FN65 Monitor

The big portable monitor for high-volume flow from a distance.

    2,500 l/min Storz B connection

    • 2,500 l/min water discharge

FAQs

What to clarify before procurement

Does the SnakE® Cooling Set fit every IBC?

The Cooling Set fits standard 1,000 l IBCs with a cage. The four adapters clamp to the upper frame tube, with one module row per adapter. For special designs we clarify the clamping in advance.

How far can the team pull back?

The modules stay on the container, and the supply line reaches as far as your C hoses. During the cooling, no crew member stands at the object permanently and personnel stay outside the hazard zone of a possible BLEVE. Water discharge, the incident and the surroundings are still checked regularly.

What needs checking before water goes onto the container?

The incident includes the substance properties and the possible reaction with water, firewater retention and the condition of the container. The full-area wetting of the top of the tank lowers the shell surface temperature and reduces the risk of container failure.

What water supply does the Cooling Set need?

A C supply line with Storz C to the wye, from there 2 × Storz D to the module strings. Guide value for the full cone: approx. 20 l/min per module at 2 to 4 bar, maximum working pressure 16 bar. Four modules add up to approx. 80 l/min. No manual adjustment is needed, the pressure comes from the supply line.

Can the set be combined with an existing SnakE®?

Yes. All components use Storz D and combine freely within one setup, including with the SnakE® rotary sprinkler. The interchangeable nozzles can be swapped during operation without taking the system down.

How long does delivery take?

The Cooling Set's product page states 5 to 10 workdays as a rule; heavy or bulky items ship by freight carrier. The binding delivery time for your configuration is stated in the quote.

Are purchase on account and XRechnung available?

Yes, for companies, plant fire departments, municipalities and emergency services units. You get a quote with line items, delivery time and payment method that transfers straight into your procurement.

How does instruction work?

On site or digitally, within one drill night. Operation comes down to Storz D plus clamping, so it needs no separate training course. Maintenance is limited to a visual check and flushing after use.

Which monitor carries the FM Approval?

The FN40 carries the FM Approval in its product name. For both monitors we supply the approval documents with the quote, so you can attach them to your procurement.

Background

Industrial firefighting: the equipment plant fire departments need

Fires in production plants, tank farms, chemical parks and logistics centers follow their own rules: high fire loads, Ex zones, confined spaces and expensive installations. For plant fire departments, company fire departments and fire safety officers, what counts is equipment that keeps a large distance between your crews and the hazard source and still brings the water to where it works.

This collection offers three paths: the SnakE® Cooling Set for stationary cooling of IBC, gas cylinder and object from cover, the Löschigel® for the fire attack in halls and parking garages from the sectional ladder, and portable monitors for high flow rates from a distance. The Cooling Set belongs to the modular SnakE® system; for vehicle fires with a traction battery we carry a dedicated selection for EV firefighting.

Cooling an IBC: how the fire department cools a 1,000 l container

An IBC next to the fire is the standard case in freight, chemical and pharma logistics. Four SnakE® adapters clamp to the upper frame tube of the cage, one module row runs per adapter, and the nozzle points at the top of the tank. The full-area wetting lowers the shell surface temperature and reduces the risk of container failure.

The setup takes three steps: position, connect the water, withdraw into cover. Water comes via a C supply line to the wye and from there via Storz D to the module strings; the guide value is approx. 20 l/min per module at 2 to 4 bar. Before water is discharged, substance properties, a possible reaction with water, firewater retention and the condition of the container are part of the incident. See the SnakE® Cooling Set

Cooling a gas cylinder: spray mist instead of a crew member at the nozzle

With a heat-exposed gas cylinder, you set up two to four modules with full cone nozzles in a semicircle, carried by a base stand or a sectional ladder section. At 2 to 4 bar an enveloping spray mist forms. Your personnel stay outside the hazard zone of a possible BLEVE, which counts especially with acetylene cylinders.

The operation spares your personnel but is not left to itself: water discharge, the incident and the surroundings are checked regularly.

Portable monitor: when a monitor is the better choice

As soon as volume from a distance is needed, a portable monitor replaces the hand-held nozzle. The FN65 works via Storz B at 2,500 l/min, the FN40 via Storz C at 908 l/min at 6.9 bar and carries the FM Approval in its product name. The Universal Monitor builds on what you have and turns an existing nozzle into a free-standing portable monitor.

For scene lighting and use in potentially explosive atmospheres we carry ATEX hand lamps in a dedicated collection. The hand lamps are not part of this selection. You will find the Löschigel® on its own product page.
