  • Cost-effective

Sandbags for flood protection require time, logistics, manpower, and power. Under EU legislation, sandbags must be disposed of as hazardous waste, which leads to costs of around €690 per linear meter of sandbags.

We offer very low life cycle costs.

  • Fast

LENOIR water barriers stop and redirect water in a very short time – on almost any surface. In sudden severe weather situations they provide the best possible protection for people, landscapes, and buildings, and they work on flowing as well as standing water.

  • Uneven surfaces

LENOIR water barriers raise themselves by water pressure and reliably adapt to uneven surfaces – from paving and gravel to grass or slopes. The elements are connected in seconds and can be extended as needed, quickly creating an effective barrier against heavy rain, even where rigid systems fail.

Quickly ready for deployment

Mobile heavy rain protection - fast

Roll out, position, and let the water do the work – in seconds:

The Lenoir water barrier builds itself up using the force of the water and immediately stops or redirects floodwater. Ideal for heavy rain, burst pipes, and hydrant failures – proven in numerous real incidents.

All Lenoir water barriers can be coupled and extended as needed. Continuous protective lines along buildings, roads, and shorelines are created in a short time – even on changing surfaces.

Modular dual-chamber system

Flexible expandability

All Lenoir water barriers can be coupled seamlessly and extended as needed. Continuous protective lines along buildings, roads, and shorelines are created within minutes – reliable even on changing surfaces.

Stable hold on uneven surfaces

Solid footing

The Lenoir system uses the dead weight of the impounded water and its wide footprint for a secure hold.

It adapts to the surface, raises itself, and remains dimensionally stable even with changing ground conditions – for reliable sealing and controlled redirection of the water.

Land and property protection, reservoirs, firewater retention

Versatile areas of application

Flood protection for buildings, roads, and shorelines: fast impounding, redirecting, and sealing.

Pipe and hydrant failures: immediate retention and water calming, including on roads.

Fire service operations: temporary water reservoir, calming water bodies, firewater retention.

Environmental and chemical protection: controlled draining and skimming of contaminated water surfaces.

Prevention and temporary measures: quickly coupled dam lines, compact to store and transport.

Flood protection stowed compactly

Easy storage

The Lenoir water barriers are designed so that complete heavy rain protection fits in a single box. The barriers are rolled flat and stored protected and dry – with no bulky components and no loose small parts. This reduces storage space, simplifies inventory management, and speeds up logistics: put the box on the vehicle, take it to the scene, roll it out – done. Ideal for fire departments, municipal services, and companies with little storage space.

Reliable heavy rain protection

Proven in practice

The Lenoir water barrier has proven itself in numerous real and training deployments: it is ready for use in minutes, holds reliably on roads, at buildings, and along shorelines, and redirects water in a controlled way.

Thanks to rugged materials, couplable modules, and an optional drain opening, it works even under difficult conditions – reusable, fast, and safe in day-to-day operations.

The result: less damage, safe procedures, and maximum operational reliability.

Sandbags are hazardous waste

Cost savings

Sandbags cause high disposal costs after use because they can be considered contaminated waste:

After contact with floodwater, mud, oil, sewage, or chemicals, the sand and casing can no longer be cleanly separated or reused and must be properly disposed of in accordance with EU regulations.

Replacing sandbags

More cost-effective than sandbags

Sandbags involve high overall effort: they are slow to set up and remove and require many personnel, logistics, and material – one linear meter of sandbags costs around €690 including disposal, with about 70% of that for disposal.

BEAVER tube dams are reusable and require no heavy equipment, less personnel, and almost no disposal – so their life cycle costs are considerably lower than those of sandbags.

How do mobile Beaver tube dams work?

How long does it take to set up a Beaver protective dam?

The setup time of the BEAVER tube dam depends on the type, tube diameter, total length, number of personnel, terrain, time of day, and available water volume. Blanket figures are therefore of limited value. Field experience shows, however, that depending on the situation, the BEAVER dam can be erected around 30–40 times faster than a comparable sandbag dam. One deployment example: in 2005 in Lucerne, 8 responders built a 320 m dam of type M50 in 1.5 hours.

Is the mobile Beaver dam system 100% watertight?

No mobile emergency flood protection system is completely watertight. Internationally, a leakage rate of 2–3 liters per minute per linear meter is accepted. In practice, the BEAVER tube dam is usually well below this, while sandbag dams generally exceed these guideline values.

Can a Beaver tube dam tip over or slide away?

Beaver protective dams have a wide footprint and offer extremely high stability. Based on our real-world experience under sometimes extreme conditions and on studies carried out, safety is ensured to a high degree in the applications known to us, provided the dam is used and set up correctly. The stability of a protective dam is influenced by the surface, the impact angle and velocity of the water, the lateral and longitudinal slope, and correct setup. In any case, we recommend factoring in freeboard and reserve damming height.

Sliding cannot be ruled out under certain circumstances. With a steep cross slope (lateral slope) over a length of several meters, the protective dam can start to slide. Slide resistance can be further reduced on long grass and grain stalks and on loose gravel. On snow and ice, slide resistance is not ensured. Sandbags placed on the land side of the Beaver dam increase slide resistance in case of doubt. This method is also recommended when a third tube has been added as an emergency measure.

Are changes of direction possible with the Beaver tube dam?

Changes of direction can be made at any point and in both directions, without the use of special elements. This almost unlimited adaptability in the terrain is unique

Can the damming height of mobile Beaver dams be increased?

Yes. By adding a third tube (single elements), the damming height can be increased by around 60% for all types. Raising the tube dam is an emergency measure that can be very valuable in certain circumstances. However, it must be taken into account that this reduces tipping and slide resistance.

The design damming height should NOT exceed the damming height of the double element. The third tube (single element) can be added as a very useful measure when the double element is at risk of being overtopped.

Why does the Beaver dam consist of two tube elements lying parallel to each other?

Due to water pressure, or simply on a cross slope, a single tube would roll away. With two tubes connected to each other, this is hardly possible. Two tubes offer greater safety than single-chamber systems. The two tubes are not needed for watertightness

How are Beaver tube dams stored?

For storage: keep BEAVER elements clean and dry inside and out, ready for use with closures fitted and closed. Dry storage at −30°C to +70°C. Maximum stacking height approx. 120–150 cm to avoid overloading fold creases through dead weight. For further details, see the “Handling, Maintenance, and Storage” leaflet.

Does the use of Beaver tube dams provide 100% safety?

No. No mobile emergency storm and flood protection system is 100% safe.
