The RK-Rescue Tray is a rescue device for rapidly evacuating injured firefighters from danger zones. It was developed by Ralf Kappes, an industrial firefighter at a nuclear power plant, where rescuing injured crew members from the plant area is a core task: confined spaces, long routes, heavy loads. The tray was born from this reality, not at a desk but in training operations.
The problem in an SCBA emergency
An unconscious firefighter in full PPE with SCBA quickly weighs around 100 kilograms. The rapid intervention team is itself on air, with a limited supply, restricted visibility and often a long way to go. In this situation, classic rescue baskets and stretchers cost massive effort, and with it time, air and safety margin.
The solution: rolling instead of dragging
The decisive difference of the RK-Rescue Tray is its integrated rollers. Instead of dragging the patient across the floor, the rescue team rolls them out of the danger zone. That noticeably reduces the physical effort from the very first meter, and makes rescue over longer distances practical in the first place: in underground garages, tunnels, industrial plants and power plant buildings.

Every detail, from the rollers to the harness system to the shape, has been proven in real training operations. The tray matches the tactics of a rapid intervention team under FwDV 7: locate fast, transfer fast, evacuate fast.
