Zone 0, 1, 2: a quick guide
The zone describes how often an explosive atmosphere occurs at the deployment site, and the device must be approved for it.
Zone 0
Continuously explosive
An explosive atmosphere is present constantly, for long periods or frequently: the toughest requirement for a device.
Zone 1
Occasionally explosive
An explosive atmosphere occurs occasionally in normal operation.
Zone 2
Rare & short-lived
In normal operation an explosive atmosphere normally does not occur or occurs only briefly.

- II Equipment group II
- Equipment for potentially explosive areas outside mining: where fire departments, industry and commerce work. The GUARDIAN also carries the mining marking I M1.
- 1G Category 1G
- The highest category for gas atmospheres: approved for Zone 0, and therefore automatically for Zone 1 and Zone 2 as well.
- Ex ia Type of protection: intrinsic safety
- Even in the event of a fault, the electronics cannot release energy capable of ignition: “ia” is the strictest level, required for Zone 0.
- IIC Gas group IIC
- The gas group with the strictest requirements: it also covers hydrogen and acetylene.
- T4 Temperature class T4
- The device's surface temperature stays below 135 °C, even in the event of a fault.
- Ga Equipment protection level Ga
- Very high level of protection for gas atmospheres: the level required for Zone 0.

How to use it
Charge, switch on, be seen
Four steps: that is all your GUARDIAN needs day to day.

Charge
Slide it into the charging station: fully charged in 4 h. The LEDs on the lamp and station show you the charge level.

Switch on
Top button: the spot starts at 240 lm with 205 m range. Holding it cycles through four levels down to the 224 h Eco mode.

Be seen
Side button: the XR switches on the red 45° signal light, the XW the white flood and signal light, flashing if needed, for up to 80 h.

Wear it on you
Clip it on, beam points forward: the angle-head design leaves both your hands free, at just 305 g.

Can I use the GUARDIAN in Zone 0?
Yes. Both GUARDIAN models are certified as equipment group II, Category 1G (II 1G Ex ia IIC T4 Ga), approved for Zone 0 and therefore automatically for Zones 1 and 2 as well. The examination certificate is CSANe 22ATEX1206X.
What is the difference between the GUARDIAN XR and XW?
Housing, battery, 240 lm spot and ATEX certification are identical. The difference is the second light: the XR has a red signal light at a 45° angle with steady and flashing modes (up to 80 h). The XW has a white flood and signal light: 25 lm of room lighting for close range, up to 50 h as steady light and up to 80 h as a white flashing signal.
How long does the battery last?
Up to 6 h in High spot mode, up to 224 h in Eco mode. The XR's red second light flashes for up to 80 h, the XW's white one shines continuously for up to 50 h and also flashes for up to 80 h. Spot and second light together run for up to 5 h 30 min. The 2,600 mAh battery charges in 4 h via the charging station; the charge level indicator shows you the remaining capacity.
Which set is the right one?
Both charging sets include the charging station: one with a 230 V AC charger and a 12 V car charger, one with the car charger only. The light on its own charges via an existing charging station and is worthwhile for expanding your kit. For initial procurement, we recommend the complete set with AC and car chargers.
