Quality-tested fire containment blanket
The VLITEX fire containment blanket E-AUTO was tested by ACTS (Advanced Car Technology Systems GmbH), the leading competence center for vehicle safety in the Magna Steyr group, for its suitability for battery fires. The result confirms: the fire blanket meets the highest requirements in fire protection and temperature control.
Successful tests in the ACTS laboratory
In the ACTS laboratory, the VLITEX fire blanket underwent a comprehensive test using state-of-the-art measurement methods. The test showed the blanket is extremely effective as a heat shield. It keeps temperatures around the burning modules below 200 °C, which allows a controlled burn-out: flooding the modules is therefore unnecessary.
In addition, the blanket reliably contains smoke and gases, which not only protects the surroundings but also lets the fire blanket act as a smoke trap. This makes it a reliable product for use in battery fires.

Fire blanket or fire containment blanket
A note on terminology:
Fire blankets are used to smother a fire through oxygen deprivation. They are mainly suitable for conventional fires. The blanket is placed over the burning object and extinguishes the fire by cutting off the air supply.
Fire containment blankets are used where extinguishing by oxygen deprivation is not possible, for example with lithium-ion battery fires. Such fires cannot be smothered by oxygen deprivation. The fire containment blanket therefore has a different goal: it contains the fire, holds back flames and smoke and protects the surroundings from heat and flying debris.
In summary:
Fire blanket: extinguishes the fire through oxygen deprivation
Fire containment blanket: contains battery fires when extinguishing is not possible
Since everyday language does not (yet) distinguish between the two terms, we use both terms as well.
